Directing Brand & Communication for Mayor’s Education Initiative
Summary
Promise South Salt Lake represents the collaboration and partnership of several nonprofit, business, faith-based, and community-based partnerships working with and for South Salt Lake’s youth. This coalition building represents partnership for South Salt Lake with Granite School District, Westminster College, University of Utah School of Social Work, English Skills Learning Center, Corporation for National Community Service, GE (General Electric Healthcare Surgery Division), United Way of Salt Lake, and many more over the network of more than 90 community partners.
Ashley served as an Executive Council Member of the Promise South Salt Lake initiative, which is a six-member council that includes the South Salt Lake Mayor, South Salt Lake Chief of Staff, Urban Design Director and Promise South Salt Lake Director.
She was the founding Editor-in-Chief of the On the Move South Salt Lake City Newsletter, a national-award winning publication that she conceptualized in design and function.
Involvement
My role was to help facilitate this important community-based work through developing brand strategies and outreach materials that are inclusive by nature, highly visual, and can transcend different backgrounds. The driving lens to measure success was to what extent a marketing asset allows for immediate participation from community residents and partners.
Recognition
Wrote the award-winning National Promise Alliance grant, leading to South Salt Lake’s designation as one of the top 100 cities in the U.S. for Youth. Served as Editor in Chief for the award-winning South Salt Lake On the Move newsletter, recognized with the APEX National Award for Publication Excellence in 2013 and 2014.
Funding
Authored high-impact grants, including the top-scoring ZAP grant for the South Salt Lake Arts Council, securing full funding. Developed the ZAP Local Arts Agency Initiative, earning $15,000 for arts programs, and created a concept grant for AmeriCorps VISTA, yielding $80,000 annually for three years. Helped secure funding to increase access to fresh produce in food desert areas through local agriculture partnerships.
Impact
Served as Board Member and Volunteer Activity Coordinator at Utah Federation for Youth, writing grants and coordinating Global Youth Service Day, empowering over 600 youth annually in community service projects. Delivered presentations to over 500 prospective students at Westminster Admissions, sharing her professional and academic journey.

Layered data with storytelling to develop compelling community narratives that illustrate need and potential for meaningful impact in the Annual Primary Salt Lake Report and Health South Salt Lake Analytic Report.
community engagement
Designed graphics specifically for audiences with diverse backgrounds and perspectives, especially to encourage immediate participation on Mayor’s community councils, such as the Visual Strategic Planning Design Framework for Primary Promise Community Councils.
